The competitive scholarships are offered on the basis of academic merit, with an emphasis on academic excellence. There are three types of scholarship in LUT, tuition fee, full scholarship and living cost scholarship. Full scholarship includes tuition fee (if applied in programme) and living cost grant.
LUT offers limited number of scholarship in following categories:
LUT general scholarship program
The scholarships offer a possibility for students to be financially supported during their period of study at Lappeenranta University of Technology. The aim of LUT general scholarship program is to help students with tuition fees or if they need financial support for living expenses incompleting their studies adequately at LUT.
Partnership scholarship program for Russian universities (see if you are eligible for this scholarship)
The aim of the program is to create more extensive cooperation between LUT and Russian universities on education and research and to strengthen these networks. This program also aims to knowedge transfer between Finnish and Russian economies.
Guidelines for Students:
1. Eligibility: All students who are applying to Lappeenranta University of Technology are eligible to apply for the scholarships.
2. Scholarship categories: There are three types of scholarship at LUT, tuition fee scholarship, full scholarship and living cost scholarship. Students may apply for tuition fee scholarship or full scholarship or living cost scholarship.

Tuition fee scholarship:
1) Maximum tuition fee scholarship covers 100% of tuition fee. The following programmes will charge tuition fee in 2012-2013
Master's Degree Programme in Mechanical Engineering;

Master's Degree Programme in Chemical and Process Engineering
Master's Degree Programme in Energy Technology:

- major subject: Nuclear Energy Technology
Master's Degree Programme in Information Technology
Master's Degree Programme in Industrial Management - Global Management of Innovation and Technology
Master's Degree Programme (CBU) in Business and Administration in International Technology and Innovation Management, MITIM
Master's Degree Programme in Strategic Finance, MSF
Master's Degree Programme in International Marketing Management (MIMM)
Full scholarship:
Student, who does not have regular income and therefore needs financial support, can apply for a full scholarship. Full scholarship covers 100 % of tuition fee (if applicable) and living cost as follows:
1) Maximum monthly living cost grant is 500 euros.
2) The maximum living cost grant for one academic year is 6000 euros.
Living cost scholarships will be paid in monthly instalments, the first part on 15.9.2012.
Living cost scholarship:
Student, who does not have regular income and therefore needs financial support and does not have to pay tuition fee, can apply for a living cost scholarship. Living cost scholarship covers living cost as follows:
1) Maximum monthly living cost grant is 500 euros.
2) The maximum living cost grant for one academic year is 6000 euros.
Living cost scholarships will be paid in monthly instalments, the first part on 15.9.2012
3. The scholarships are usually granted for one academic year, i.e. for two semesters at a time, but will be extended for programs longer than two semesters provided that study results are satisfactory. The student must display excellent results after the first year to be entitled to the scholarship for the second year. A mandatory check of the student´s results is made already after the first semester.
4. Applicants who have been awarded a scholarship by Lappeenranta University of Technology but who have not been granted a Residence Permit by the Finnish Migration Services will lose the offered scholarship.
5. A scholarship is tied to one specific programme. The scholarship is not guaranteed for the student if he or she switches to another faculty or programme at Lappeenranta University of Technology.
6. Under certain circumstances Lappeenranta University of Technology can reclaim the scholarship. This is applicable for example if the student has been suspended from the university or has not paid the remaining part of the tuition fee. Living cost part of scholarship will be reclaimed if student has other regular source of income.
7. The tuition fee scholarship is a tuition fee subsidy.
8. All students have the right to appeal their scholarship status. All appeals must be in writing and include the student’s name, email address, telephone number and all the facts and documentation upon which the appeal is based. The appeal must be received by LUT international office on 15 May 2012, at the latest.
Notification and mandatory confirmation requirements
1. The awarding of the scholarship will be notified by the university on 2 May.
2. The receiver of the scholarship must confirm the scholarship offer by accepting the offered study place at the university.
3. If no reply has been registered by 1 July, the offered scholarship is revoked.
Applying for the scholarship
Students apply for the scholarship in the LUT application form (template) when applying to a Master programme. In the application round 2012 there is no separate scholarship application process or form.
