Finland is a well-organised and efficient society. We rely on our general infrastructure as both public and private services are run effectively.
Having well run public services like the police, fire and rescue services, transportation, education, and health care are fundamental to our daily living.
Our banking services are among the best in world: advanced, innovative and easy to use.
Banking, safety, technology – you name it: everything works!
Safe place to study and live
There are no major health risks in Finland. Sanitation measures are good so there is no need for undue worry with food and drink.
Finland has a relatively/very low crime rate. Exercise normal safety precautions against theft.
Medical services are excellent and you will be assured of a level of medical care. Primary healthcare is provided by municipal health centres. They are usually only open for specific hours on weekdays.
Health services for the members of Student Unions
All the students studying at LUT for more than three months must join Student Union (LTKY). Members of the Student Unions are entitled to use the services of all the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS, in Finnish YTHS) health centres in Finland. The FSHS has a full range of medical services including preventive health care, medical care, mental health care and dental health care.
Please note! As emergency or hospital treatment is not covered by the FSHS policy, it is compulsory for non-EU-citizens to have an individual health insurance covering the costs of acute illness and injury. More information about health insurance, please check Finnish immigration service. EU-citizens should have the European Helath Insurance Card (EHIC) or private health insurance for the same reason.
