Viipuri Prize goes posthumously to world-renowned Professor C.K. Prahalad

The family of the late Professor Coimbatore Krishnarao Prahalad (C. K. Prahalad) will accept the Viipuri Prize for Professor Prahalad at the 2nd Global Peter Drucker Management Forum in Vienna, Austria, on Friday, 19 November 2010. The two-day forum draws attention with its league of world-class speakers from academic and corporate backgrounds, who will engage in dialogues on the future of management from 18 to 19 November.

The Viipuri Prize is a tribute to C.K. Prahalad’s achievements in the field of economics. It is handed to the recipient by the School of Business of Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT), Finland.

”The Viipuri Prize is our way of honoring distinguished members of the international academic community whose work inspires our own research efforts. The LUT School of Business widely applies the strategic concepts and models developed by Prahalad,” says Dean Jaana Sandström of the School of Business.

Prahalad, most recently employed by the University of Michigan, wrote a number of books dealing with strategy and management. The publications revolutionized the corporate world. In the past decade, Prahalad in collaboration with business guru Gary Hamel developed the concepts of core competence and strategic intent, which have become key notions in management since.
