LUT School of Business was founded 20 years ago this autumn. The faculty employs roughly 100 people, including 20 or so professors. Approximately 10 postgraduate students annually complete their doctoral degree, 180 undergraduate students obtain their Master’s degree and 130 their Bachelor’s degree. Studies by the University of Jyväskylä have already twice shown that the School of Business is the most efficient of its kind in Finland. The faculty was a pioneer in developing the first double degree programme in Finland with the St. Petersburg Graduate School of Management. A strong actor in the background has been the Society for Viipuri School of Economics.
The School of Business will celebrate its 20-year history on two occasions. A reception by invitation will be arranged on October 6th in Skinnarilan Hovi. The guests include the faculty’s important stakeholders. The programme includes music by the string quartet of Etelä-Karjalan orkesteri, a speech by the former head of department Kari Neilimo, and photographs on the history of the School of Business.
On Friday, October 7th, the faculty will organise a celebration for its staff members in the restaurant Lappeenrannan Kasino. The event will feature the history of the faculty, music and karaoke.
The student association Enklaavi has celebrated the entire past week by arranging company visits, etiquette lessons by Kaarina Suonperä, and dance classes. Friday is Monopoly night, on Saturday it is the annual banquet and on Sunday the breakfast buffet.
