Admission Criteria and Selection

The MIMM admission process is in two stages: preliminary selection based on the written application and an interview.

Preliminary Selection

The preliminary selection is based on the following:

1) Competence and aptitude based on previous studies

Successful applicants will have earned at least 24 ECTS credits of studies in marketing, international marketing or international business, excluding final theses or traineeships. A representative of the Master’s programme in question assesses the competences obtainable from previous studies. Please note! It is the applicant’s responsibility to list the above-mentioned studies and credits ( conversion into ECTS credits 1 ECTS credit = 26 hours of work) according to discipline in a separate appendix to the application. No statements will be made in advance.

2) Final thesis

Admission to the programme requires a final thesis grade of at least 3 (on a scale of 1 to 5). If the final thesis has not been evaluated on a scale of 1 to 5, the average grade limits are adapted to the grade system of the thesis.

3) International competence and experience

Admission to the programme requires good international competence. Important! Applicants with no international competencies or experience cannot be admitted.Assessment of such competence takes into account the applicant’s prior experience of studies or work abroad and/or of studies in a foreign language, prior knowledge of foreign cultures and/or languages, and a general interest in and openness towards international affairs. Applicants should describe their international competence in a separate letter (a maximum of one A4 sheet) and attach other relevant certificates.

Applicant Ranking

Applicants meeting the above-mentioned admission criteria are ranked based on their degree, grades, and international competence and experience. These areas are scored as follows:

1) Grades (maximum 6 points)

The applicant should calculate the average grade for his or her previous studies if it is not indicated in the degree certificate. All courses graded numerically are included in the average grade. The admissions personnel will check the calculations.

The average grade and final thesis are given points as follows:

  • 4 points: excellent average grade, over 3.75 (on a scale from 1 to 5)
  • 2 points: good average grade, over 3.25 (on a scale from 1 to 5)
  • 2 points: excellent final thesis (5)
  • 1 point: good final thesis (4)

If the previous degree was not evaluated on a scale from 1 to 5, the average grade limits and final thesis are adapted to the grade system of the degree.

2) International competencies and experience (maximum 4 points)

Applicants must provide evidence of their international competence and experience in a separate letter and other documents. Points are awarded as follows:

  • 4 points: excellent international competencies and experience
  • 2-3 points: good international competencies and experience
  • 0-1 points: no international competence or experience; the applicant cannot be admitted.

Interview

The second stage of the application process comprises an interview. The interview shortlist is compiled on the basis of the admission scores.

The interview (maximum 10 points) assesses the applicant’s motivation, aptitude for the programme, and language and communication skills.

Final Selection

The final selection is based on the combined score of the first and second rounds. The results of the 2012 application round will be announced on May 2nd 2012.
