Skills and abilities
The aim of this specialist program is to offer an International Master of Science double degree that will give students the required theoretical and practical competences in conducting strategic technology and innovation management in turbulent global environments and emerging markets. We want our students to have key competences in analytical skills, intercultural issues and combining business and technology.
In addition to the content-related knowledge and understanding, the teaching is designed to improve the students’ communication skills, social skills, technical skills (especially methodology skills) and general working life skills. New knowledge is acquired through various learning methods, such as interactive lectures, cases, field projects, firm assignments, computer simulations, both written and verbal presentations, and multicultural teamwork.
The students will gain expertise in key concepts and knowledge of essential theories, applying theories, information acquisition and analysis, source critics, industry collaboration, tolerance and multiculturalism. Industry collaboration is an organic part of the curriculum, as the degree includes a compulsory company internship and a consulting project, done either at LUT or GSOM.
Tolerance and multiculturalism are a natural part of this international double degree program. The student body is international. In addition, there are joint activities for the LUT and GSOM MITIM students (company excursions, joint Master’s Thesis seminar sessions). Thirdly, some of the courses are co-produced by both LUT and GSOM faculty members.
Values and attitudes
The MITIM graduates study in a unique environment, as they are exposed to two educational and business cultures. Both the content of the education and the cultural environment develop the graduates’ global mindset; i.e. they are aware of opportunities and changes in the global business environment, and they are sensitive to different values, cultures and behaviors, especially in Finnish-Russian context.
In addition, the program supports the development of an innovative mindset; i.e. the students will develop a comprehensive awareness of how technologies and innovations shape organizations, market, society and environment, and they will be able to take an entrepreneurial approach to opportunities of the environment.
