Membrane technology

Research work done on the characterisation of membrane charge and hydrophilicity as well as modification has gained worldwide attention. Fouling and cleaning of membranes in different applications are studied.
The purification of pulp and paper mill circulation waters for reuse in a closed water system is one of the most important applications studied in the field of membrane technology.

Other extensively studied applications are membranes in protein fractionation and nanofiltration in the metal and sugar industry.

Modelling, simulation and optimisation of membrane processes, mainly UF and RO, are the objects of intensive study. Modelling is based on phenomenological equations or neural networks. CFD-modelling of membrane separation is also studied.
