Cooperation provides new points of view 


The South Karelian Institute cooperates with various regional, national, and international operators in a range of educational, research, and cultural projects.

The Institute aims to launch research, cultural, and educational projects in cooperation with libraries and various academic institutions in Vyborg. The objectives of the projects include shedding light on life in the border region, the everyday experiences of the local people, and the networking of various cultures and community structures. 

Cooperation relationships have also been established with academic and other operators in Svetogorsk, Petrozavodsk, and St. Petersburg.

Relationships with other research networks are created through joint research projects. The institute participated in the operations of Tension of Europe, a European network, and organized a large international research conference in Lappeenranta as part of the network’s operations.

The institute’s other cooperation partners include: the Regional Council of South Karelia, South Karelia summer university and other organisations providing general adult education in the region, South Karelia University of Applied Sciences, operators in South Karelian cuisine, Vyborg Provincial Library and Alvar Aalto Library, Centre for Independent Social Research/ St. Petersburg, University of Petrozavodsk, EuroCrit network, Inventing Europe network, Aleksanteri Institute, town of Imatra, city of Lappeenranta, National Archive, National Board of Antiquities, city of Lappeenranta/South Karelia Museum, Kymenlaakso museum and the University of Helsinki, Etelä-Karjalan karjalaisseurat ry, Finnish Karelian League, Army Academy, and Church activities at universities.
