Various university units in the city of Lahti have launched a three-year project UrbanEnviro focusing on urban environments and internationalization. The project has ambitious goals: to educate and produce international and internationally qualified experts in urban environments, to update the already existing expertise and to encourage networks nationally and internationally to apply this kowledge in society. In addition the project aims to develop international student services in Lahti.
Lappeenranta University of Technology Lahti School of Innovation has two courses in the project. The first of these, Basic Course on Environmental Management and Economics has already started and it is mainly for students of The Master’s Degree Programme in Multidisciplinary Studies on Urban Environmental Issues. Teacher of this course is Virgilio Panapanaan from Lappeenranta. The course aims to introduce students to the challenges that sustainable development poses to society and businesses and to the methods for addressing those challenges. The second course of LUT Lahti School of Innovation is next season. The goal of the project is that open university and adult education institute students will aso be able to attend the courses at a later stage.
