Finland - a striking mixture of Nordic wonders

With its midsummer sun and white wintry landscapes, advanced levels of education, cutting edge technology and high levels of innovation, Finland is a true blend of Nordic wonders.

As one of the Nordic countries, Finland is situated on the northernmost edge of Europe, and borders on Sweden, Norway, Russia and Estonia. Finland has a population of 5.3 million, and the overwhelming majority of Finland’s sparsely-populated land area is covered by dense forests and beautiful lakes. The peaceful nature attracts winter sports enthusiasts and hikers alike, while the northern lights provide tourists with a truly unforgettable experience.

Finland is a parliamentary democracy with a stable, competitive economy, and a President as Head of State. Finland has also been a member of the European Union since the start of 1995. Finnish and Swedish are the official languages. Around 5 percent of the population speak Swedish. English is also commonly spoken, particularly amongst the young.

Finland’s manufacturing is based on three central pillars – the wood and paper industry, electronics and other metal and engineering industries. Finnish companies are among the world’s leaders in mobile telephone communications, meteorological instruments and field devices, and in some areas of biotechnology and pharmaceutics.
