Graduate School of Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT GS)

Lappeenranta University of Technology specializes in internationally high-level scientific research and doctoral education in its fields of expertise in technology and business. All doctoral students of the university belong to LUT Graduate School, which covers all the disciplines of the university. The graduate school is headed by the vice-rector for research together with the graduate school steering group.

The main objective of LUT GS is to provide a unique approach and environment for high-quality, research-oriented doctoral education for all its students. Approximately 40 doctors graduate each year.

LUT Graduate School includes not only the doctoral programmes of LUT’s faculties, but also several national doctoral programmes in which LUT participates or which are coordinated by LUT. Each doctoral programme at LUT has its own head.

During the doctoral education the student acquires in-depth knowledge of his or her research field in order to be able to apply scientific research methods and generate new scientific knowledge independently and with due criticism within his or her research field.

Doctoral education consists of acquiring transferable skills, studying field specific and supporting studies and doing scientific research (dissertation).
