Residence Permit Issues
Regarding to EU citizens, while the traineeship taking place in another EU country and the total stay not exceeding 3 months (90 days), they do not need a Residence Permit. If the total period of stay is exceeding 3 months, EU citizens need to register their right for residence in that specific country within the first 3 months.

Regarding to non-EU citizens while the traineeship taking place in another Schengen country and the lenght of the stay not exceeding 3 months (90 days), the Residence Permit admitted to Finland is valid throuhgout the stay also in the country of destination. However, if the total length of stay is exceeding 3 months, a Residence Permit to the country of destination is compulsory and needs to be applied for before leaving Finland - the application process should be started as soon as the traineeship is confirmed.

Regarding to non-EU citizens while the traineeship taking place in a non-Schengen country, a Residence Permit to the country of destination is always compulsory, regardless of the length of the stay. The application process should be started as soon as the traineeship is confirmed.

Please note that when going for an international traineeship, you also need to consider the timing for applying for the second Residence Permit to Finland, while this process is taking over 6 months at the moment.
