Completing studies in other universities (LUT students)
The national agreement on a flexible right to study between universities entered into force on 1 August 2004. Based on the agreement, undergraduate and postgraduate students are entitled to apply for the right to complete individual courses, modules or minor subjects in other universities and to include these studies in their degree at LUT. Courses completed on the basis of the flexible right to study are free of charge.
There are two stages in the application process for a flexible study right. First, students must apply for approval from their home department. On approval, LUT accepts the inclusion of the studies into the student’s degree and commits to paying for the studies. Second, the student applies for the right to study from the target university, which can either accept or reject the application.
Without LUT’s approval, students cannot apply for or be granted a flexible right to study in the target university. However, this does not necessarily mean that the student cannot take the courses and include them in the LUT degree. Students are allowed to complete individual courses and pay for the fees themselves.. Even without the home university’s approval, it is worth while to find out about studies in the target university and possible related costs.
The application form for flexible studies and application instructions of universities are found in the online service for the flexible right to study at www.joopas.fi (http://www.joopas.fi/index.php?node=Joopas_aloitussivu). The application must be submitted to study coordinator of the student’s home department. More information on the approval process, criteria, appendices, etc. can be found on the LUT web site at (http://www.lut.fi/fi/opiskelu/nykyiset_opiskelijat/joo_opinnot/soveltamisohjeet.html).

The national agreement on the flexible right to study between universities entered into force on 1 August 2004. Based on the agreement, undergraduate and postgraduate students are entitled to apply for the right to complete individual courses or modules at LUT and to include the studies in their degree at their home university. Courses completed on the basis of a flexible right to study are free of charge. In order to receive the right to study, approval from the home university is always required.
All LUT courses are available to students with a flexible study right from another university. The course palette can be viewed at www.lut.fi/fi/opiskelu/nykyiset_opiskelijat/opinto_oppaat.html. However, applicants must meet the prerequisites for the courses. For some of the courses the intake might be limited. In such cases, LUT students take precedence.
An application form, instructions and more information on flexible studies are available in the national online service for the flexible right to study at www.joopas.fi.
