Regional development 

Lappeenranta University of Technology operates in Mikkeli and Varkaus cities, which are formulated under the LUT Savo brand. The Mikkeli Unit manages and co-ordinates the LUT Savo operations.

The Mikkeli unit provides university-level technological expertise in the Mikkeli and South-Savo area through research and development as well as education.

The unit supports the competitiveness of the area and local enterprises by producing and compiling high-quality international business expertise based on research. In addition, the unit develops and trains local enterprises, organisations and units.

The unit operates in close cooperation with the Mikkeli University Consortium, Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences, enterprises and municipalities in the region and other public organisations. The Mikkeli unit represents the university in Mikkeli and South-Savo region, and conveys the university’s expertise to the local companies and people. The Mikkeli unit of Lappeenranta University of Technology plays an important role in developing the Mikkeli University Consortium with other university units in Mikkeli.

The Mikkeli unit of Lappeenranta University of Technology was established in 2003. Currently, it employs 16 people.
