The environmentally themed children’s art exhibition is now open to the public at the Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT). Artwork of children from all across Russia is on display. The exhibition is in the Gallery Hall, located on the third floor of the LUT main building.

The art exhibition features the best artwork selected from among 600 pieces originally on display in an exhibition entitled “The Environment And We” at the Saint Petersburg State Technological University of Plant Polymers. The works depict the Russian children’s attitude toward environmental issues and express their vision of our shared planet’s future.

Saint Petersburg State Technological University of Plant Polymers houses the Museum of Paper History and three exhibition halls in its Museum and Exhibition Complex. Art exhibitions rotate there on a monthly basis. “The Environment and We” exhibition was held there in connection with the International Youth Conference and the BIOS-2011 Olympiad. The event was organized by an environmental club for university students and schoolchildren of the Baltic-Ladoga region.

The Saint Petersburg State Technological University of Plant Polymers has a partnership with the Lappeenranta University of Technology. LUT Rector Ilkka Pöyhönen and LUT Nordi Reseach Director Katja Novikova familiarized themselves with the exhibition in Saint Petersburg in September with the guidance of University of Plant Polymers Vice Rector for Foreign Affairs Nadezhda Khodyrevan. Some pieces from the exhibition were requested for the celebration of the grand opening of the Lappeenranta University of Technology’s Green Campus. The two-week long exhibition will be on display in university gallery facilities until 17 November, and will feature a total of 45 pieces of art created by children of all ages and young adults.

Green Campus reflects the strong expertise of Lappeenranta University of Technology in the energy sector and its research into sources of renewable energy. It highlights green values and energy efficiency in a concrete way on the Skinnarila campus. The campus will see the construction of a wind turbine and solar panels among other things, and the electricity that they produce will be used for research and to charge the university's electric cars and electric bikes. Green Campus demonstrates how science and technology can help provide solutions to ecological problems and build a sustainable world.
