Catalytic Abatement of Liquid and Gaseous Industrial Pollutants

The project is focused on two main environmental problems:

1. pulp and paper industry discharges, containing refractory compounds;
2. pollution of soil and groundwater with the residues of rocket propellants.

The research objective is to establish optimum conditions for oxidative strategies in eliminating refractory compounds from water by combination of chemical treatment methods, including ozone-associated advanced oxidation technologies, heterogeneous Fenton reagent, catalytic wet air oxidation and photocatalytic oxidation, with aerobic biologic oxidation. The objectives in working with gas-phase photocatalysis include the study of reaction routes and kinetics for mercaptans and hydrazines.
