LUT has launched an assessment project of the university's research - the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The project will last until spring 2012. RAE evaluates LUT’s research in relation to the international level and practices in each scientific discipline. The objective is to analyse the current quality profile by identifying the existing strengths and potential. RAE is of utmost importance to LUT’s future research.
The assessment focuses on the future. Its objective is to produce proposals and recommendations to promote the quality and impact of research and to support quality awareness in units. In addition, LUT’s level is compared to the international level and practices in each field of science, and the assessment methods and their suitability is reflected on in the different disciplines. During the process, units have an opportunity to be heard in the definition of new objectives and practices.
The key stages of the assessment are the definition of research-active personnel and the collection of their identification information, the collection of publication data and other information concerning scientific activity, the self-assessment of units, the bibliometric analysis of LUT’s publication activity and an on-site review visit by external international panelists. The final report of RAE will be finished in April 2012.
