The research laboratory for wood technology at Lappeenranta studies and develops wood cutting tools and machining methods, and provides related education.
In addition to modern basic machinery such as smooth and parallel planing machines, dimensional circular saws and band saws, the laboratory also boasts two top-of-the-line cutter research units.
The wide range of equipment with special features paves the way for high-level research. In addition to basic research, Lappeenranta provides competitive research services in e.g. the modelling of blade geometries and the development of new machining equipment and blade materials.
Equipment at the laboratory has partly been funded by the Regional Council of South Karelia and the EU. In addition, some of the equipment has been donated by industrial enterprises.
