Chemical technology and chemistry are extremely versatile sciences. It is almost impossible to find an object which has not required chemical technology in any phase of its manufacture. Traditionally, the processing industry in general and chemical, bio-chemical, metallurgical, and forest industries in particular have been the main areas for the application of chemical technology. These are also the main focus areas of the research conducted at the LUT’s Department of Chemical Technology.
The growing interest in environmental protection and the need to develop new energy technologies has increased the amount of research conducted in these fields at the Department of Chemical Technology.
The most important areas of expertise of the department include separation technology, process development, and applied research in the wood processing industry. By applying scientific methods, the wide expertise of the department is utilized in order to discover solutions to challenging problems that have practical significance and to generate new knowledge and technologies.
To ensure the high quality of research, interdisciplinary cooperation between various research groups on both national and international levels has been made an inseparable part of the department’s operations.
