The Master of Science (Technology) degree includes a final thesis, in which students demonstrate their knowledge on a topic of scientific or societal importance with regard to the world of work. The thesis is a research or design project which, together with the thesis seminar, amounts to 30 ECTS credits. Master’s theses are usually commissioned by industry, and the work is done in the facilities of the commissioning company or at the University. The writing process takes from 6 to 8 months. Thesis students are (almost without exception) paid a salary or granted a scholarship from the Grant Foundation of LUT (in Finnish).
In addition, some courses include a practical, advanced assignment in industry or on an industry-related problem at the University.
