Due to the constantly changing energy markets, the need for specialists in the area is on the increase. Carbon dioxide emissions trading has affected the competitiveness of fuels in electricity production, and in addition to cost factors, environmental impacts are emphasised more and more in the supply of energy.
Energy economics research focuses on calculating the production costs of energy and especially electricity, and on studying Finnish energy economics, i.e. the consumption and supply of energy, energy supply costs and carbon dioxide emissions. Special emphasis is placed on the comparison of production costs and carbon dioxide emissions of different electricity supply alternatives.
