Computational Fluid Dynamics

Today it is not always necessary to construct actual prototypes - the flow field can be simulated using computational fluid dynamics. In most cases the image of the flow field is more detailed that can be achieved trough measurements. The concept is similar to principles used in strength analysis with Finite Element Method.
The computational fluid dynamic elements are:

3D model creation of the flow area

  • Calculation grid creation to the flow area
  • Defining of the starting values and boundary conditions
  • Numerical solving of the flow equations
  • Grid generation with IGG and pre prosessing
  • Post processing and visualization with Fieldview

The tools used by the Laboratory are:

  • Flow solver Finflo created by Helsinki University of Technology and developed for radial compressor together with our Laboratory
  • Commercial Fluent solver
  • GridGen for grid creation and pre processing
  • IGG for grid generation and pre processing
  • Fieldview for post processing and visualization
