Energy Conversion

Research in Energy Conversion, Power Engineering and Renewable Energy Systems  aims for the development of effective, energy efficient and ecological systems for energy production and distribution. Research on biofuels, their use in combined heat and power production, and reducing emissions are currently the key areas of research and education in the laboratory.

Research on distributed energy systems develops technologies for small-scale heat and power production with biofuels.

The gas combustion research project studies the high-temperature air combustion (HiTAC) of natural gas without creating nitrogen oxides, and the use of nitrogen and other gases as fuels.

Research on conversion of biofuels through thermal treatment aims to convert biomasses to more valued end products such as torrefied biomass or biocoal.
