The Laboratory of Machine Design continues to make significant contributions to the education of experts in the field of Mechanical Design. Accomplishments of Master’s and doctoral level students of the laboratory are appreciated by both academia and industry. A majority of the laboratory graduates pursue career
s in well-established areas of industry. It is noteworthy, however, that the laboratory encourages and supports graduates in the creation of spin-off companies to exploit the technologies associated with research conducted at the laboratory. Graduates are building bridges between vision and practice.
The Laboratory of Machine Design is continuously seeking outstanding students who wish to pursue a doctoral degree. In order to learn more about possible doctoral dissertation topics available in the laboratory please log in to the web site:

Prospective doctoral students are kindly asked to email their CV to mikkola@lut.fi.
Master’s level students of the laboratory study both the theory and practice of developing and optimizing mechanical engineering systems. They learn to use state-of-the-art computer tools for creating and testing virtual prototypes to design, test and optimise complex mechatronic systems and structures before a prototype is fabricated. Master’s level students of the laboratory also have the opportunity to contribute their novel ideas to the solution of practical problems. This is accomplished in practise by carrying out a wide variety of practical design task assigned by industrial companies worldwide.
