Welding technology research at Lappeenranta University of Technology has indisputably secured a leading position at the national level, and is also acknowledged internationally. The research focuses on welding productivity, quality and economy. The research areas include welding methods and their automation, materials and welding metallurgy, the design of welded structures, and welding production and quality. Research on laser and plasma arc welding has been ground-breaking. Research is conducted in close cooperation with other universities and research institutes, and especially with the welding industry.
