Research and Studies in Business, Technology and Management

The Department of Industrial Management at Lappeenranta University of Technology is the oldest Finnish unit in the field, as well as the largest research and training unit of its kind in the Nordic countries. The department has wide, well-established networks of connections in industrial research in Finland and abroad.

An annual average of a hundred students graduate from the Department of Industrial Management with the degree of Master of Science (Technology). There are approximately 700 undergraduate students in the department, and approximately 150 new students are admitted annually. Each year, about 10 postgraduate students receive the degree of Doctors of Science (Technology).

The Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council nominated the Department of Industrial Management as a national centre of excellence in university education in 2010-2012, 2004-2006 and 2001-2003. In practice, this is manifest in high-quality instruction and a continually developing environment for studies. Its key factors are the pedagogic training of the department’s teaching staff, the development of teaching methods together with students, genuinely supporting study counselling, efficient use of information networks, and a broad network for international student exchange.
