The Department of Industrial Management is the oldest of its kind in Finland; it was founded in 1969. The Degree Programme in Information Technology at LUT was launched in 1985, and the Department of Information Technology was founded in 1987. The departments were merged into one faculty at the beginning of the year 2007.
Departments
There are two strong departments in the faculty, Industrial Management and Information Technology. The university has appointed research groups from both departments as centres of excellence in research. Research on industrial management unites technology and business, whereas research on information technology combines retaining, storing and transferring knowledge and information. In addition, the departments arrange degree programmes in Industrial Management and Information Technology.
As an indication of the high-quality of instruction at the Department of Industrial Management, the Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council nominated the department as a national centre of excellence in university education in 2001-2003, 2004-2006 and 2010-2012. Similarly, the Department of Information Technology was nominated as a centre of excellence in university education in 2006-2007.
Bachelor's and Master's Degree Programmes in Industrial Management are ASIIN e.V.-accredited degree programmes (the label was awarded on 28 June 2011). The quality label is certificate of high-quality engineering education, international recognition of the degrees and a guarantee of continuous development of education.
