Machine Vision and Pattern Recognition Laboratory (MVPR)

The Laboratory, lead by Professor Ville Kyrki, educates experts of intelligent computing and produces new machine vision and pattern recognition solutions. The goal is to build usefull applications for industry and citizens. For example, research is focused on face recognition for a biometric passport and machine vision systems for automatic paper and board printability tests. In medical image processing retina images are studied for the efficient healthcare of diabetes.

Further information about research can be found at the research site of the Laboratory. At the site the personnel is introduced. Lappeenranta University of Technology has granted to the Laboratory the status of LUT Center of Excellence in Research.

The laboratory offers the following major subjects in the Degree Programme in Information Technology:

Moreover, the laboratory provides education in basic information technology and computer science for the other departments of the university.
