Research that meets the needs of Industry

There are two international research units in the faculty: the departments of Industrial Management and Information Technology. Their research is specifically related to the ICT sector and fields of basic industry, such as the forest, metal, chemical and energy industries. Growing application areas include industrial services and the development of public sector service processes.

Research in Industrial Management combines technology and economics: engineering and business know-how. The primary research areas are technology management, accounting, supply chain management, industrial marketing and, as one of the university’s focus areas, business environments in Russia and transition economies.

Research in Information Technology combines retaining, storing and transferring knowledge and information. The main research areas are machine vision and pattern recognition, software engineering and telecommunication technology. Machine vision is used for example in studying the printing qualities of paper and cardboard, as well as in building biometric passports based on face recognition. Medical image processing studies how images of the fundus of the eye can be used for diagnosing diabetes.
