Intercultural Summer School by the Lake Saimaa 


You are warmly welcome to the beautiful town of Lappeenranta, by the lake Saimaa, to learn English for intercultural purposes. The summer school deals with various topics related to everyday communication in business, all in intercultural setting.  The studies are divided into five topics, one topic per day.

The course includes four lessons à 45 minutes in the morning, and some topic related activities in the evening. A more detailed programme will be planned according to the needs of the participants.

Some time will be reserved also for the participants to get acquainted with the town of Lappeenranta, its sights and shopping centres etc.

  1. Theories of intercultural communication
  2. Intercultural negotiations
  3. Meetings and discussions in intercultural setting
  4. Presentations and cultural differences in them
  5. Work shop of intercultural communication

Accommodation, evening programme, trips etc. are part of the summer school and arranged according to the needs and wishes of the participants.

Examples of evening activities: a two-hour cruise on the lake Saimaa; a "sauna evening" at the LUT's own sauna by the lake; a dinner at a restaurant by the lake Saimaa

Length: 5 days/ 5 x 4 hours (1 lesson/hour = 45 minutes)

Methods: Pair and group activities, case studies and role plays, group discussions, lectures and work shop at the end of the course

The summer school is scheduled in week 34, 22 - 26 August 2012.
