Biography
Jamshid Aghaei (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Power and Water Institute of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2003, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, in 2005 and 2009, respectively. He is currently a Full Professor with the Lappeenranta University of Technology LUT, Lappeenranta, Finland. Prior to this, Dr. Aghaei was Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Electric Power System Operation and Planning in Shiraz University of technology (SUTech), Shiraz, Iran, from 2010 to 2020. During his employment with SUTech, he had opportunities to join some international universities as a visiting researcher in different periods including: University of Wollongong (UOW), Wollongong, Australia (in 2013 and 2015) and the Department of Electric Power Engineering, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway, from 2017-2019.

My personal teaching philosophy is to foster critical thinking and problem-solving strategies, facilitate the acquisition of life-long learning skills, and prepare students to function effectively in integrating new information and experiences with their existing knowledge structures. I believe students are entitled to quality instruction in an active and encouraging learning environment. Students should experience repeated opportunities to act, react, and interact with each other and the professor. Accordingly, I have pursued every available opportunity to teach. During his graduate and postgraduate training, I was also fortunate enough to have served as a Thesis Supervisor/Co-Supervisor for PhD and MSc students in the Electrical Power Engineering which mainly have concentrated on microgrids, smart grids and integration of renewables and storages into the electric power systems as well as operation, planning and economics of Microgrids. Beyond these experiences, I am deeply committed to teach related courses for postgraduate students. For instance, two main courses that he has been involved as a teacher in Shiraz University of Technology are “Renewable Power Generation” (usually for spring semesters) and “Smart Grids and Microgrids” (usually for fall semesters) for 8 years. In addition, I have presented a lecture with the title of “Power System Flexibility Using Demand Response Programs” as a guest lecturer in the course of “Electricity Markets” at NTNU. These experiences have built my confidence and interest in teaching and I look forward to the opportunity to not only teach existing courses at the LUT University, but also work to develop new ones.
