A member of Mika Sillanpää's research group published in a significant journal
A member of Mika Sillanpää's research group, Chaoliu Li, has been named first author in an article published in the highly esteemed journal Nature Communications.
The article discusses how air pollution melts glaciers on the Tibetan Plateau – the so-called Third Pole. The area supplies water to 40% of the world's population.
"I think this article is the first one to determine the relative contribution of the biomass and fossil fuel sources of combustion-derived black carbon in the atmosphere and glaciers by in situ samples in the Himalayas and Tibet, an area with significant influence on the climate of Asia and the livelihood of billions of Asians," explains Chaoliu Li.
