Language Tests for Applying to Master's Programmes

When applying to our Master's programmes in English, you need to prove your English language skills by presenting one of the accepted language test results.

There are also certain cases when there is no language test result required - please see further information at When a Language Test Result is not Required.

Any of the following English language tests with at least the minimum score mentioned is accepted as proof of your proficiency in English:

Accepted Language Tests & Results

IELTS Academic, IELTS Indicator and IELTS Online

Minimum overall score: 6.0

For us to be able to verify your electronic test result from the IELTS database, remember to

  • Upload a copy for your IELTS Test Report Form or IELTS Indicator Score ID to your Online Application Form

    When having access to your Test Report Form (TRF) Number or IELTS Indicator Score ID, we will be able to verify your electronic test result.
    For a computer-delivered test, your results will be available in 3-5 days after taking the test.
    For a paper-based test, your Test Report Form will be available 13 days after your test.

     

TOEFL iBT Test, TOEFL iBT Home Edition and TOEFL Paper Edition
Minimum overall score: 80

MyBest Scores* accepted as well

For us to be able to verify your electronic test result from the TOEFL database, remember to 

  • Request the TOEFL / ETS Test Centre to add LUT University as a receiver of your electronic Score Report.

    Indicate our official name Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT and our Institution Code 0496.
    Your test result is verifiable on ETS Data Manager after approx. 6-8 days of taking the test.
  • Upload the PDF copy of your Score Report to your Online Application Form

    NEW! If not having indicated our Institution Code at the time of taking the test, you no longer have to pay extra and send us the scores afterwards.
    Uploading a PDF copy for your Score Report will give us a possibility to verify your test result as the minimum we will need is your date of birth together with your appointment number for the test.

Overall score for the test taker's highest section of individual scores from all valid test dates in the last 2 years. Available for score reports from August 1, 2019 onwards. All the individual results must be valid ones.

 

PTE Academic and PTE Academic Online
Minimum overall score: 54

For us to be able to verify your electronic test result from the PTE database, remember to

  • Send your electronic Score Report to LUT University from your PTE Online Account

    Indicate our official name Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT.
  • Upload the PDF copy of your Score Report to your Online Application Form
    The test result will usually be available on your Online Account within 5 working days from the date of taking the test.
  • The minimum that we need for the verification is your Score Report Code or, your Registration ID
     

C1 Advanced & C2 Proficiency by Cambridge Assessment English
Minimum score: C

For us to be able to verify your electronic test result from the CAE database, remember to

  • Register at the CAE Candidate Website
  • Provide LUT Admissions Services with your date of birth and your candidate ID Number
    Indicate our official name Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT.
    The Statement of Results will be released online approximately 2-6 weeks from the date of taking the test, depending on the test being a paper or an online test.

If already having received the official C1/C2 Certificate, remember to upload a copy for it to your Online Application Form.
 

Deadline for the Test Results

When required to take one of the accepted language tests in English, the final DL to provide us with the test result is the supplementary DL of 2 February 2022 at 15:00 (UTC+2).

This is the DL when

  • You must have uploaded a scan for your test result on your Online Application Form
  • We must be able to electronically verify your test result in the test organiser's result database or, in another way described below under each test info.
    For us to be able to verify your test result may require some actions from your part towards the test organisation - please carefully read the instructions.

Any late results or, results that cannot be verified by the given DL, will not be accepted.
 

Validity for the Test Result

  • Test results with at least the minimum required score with a test date no prior to 1 December 2018 will be accepted.
    • We are allowing our applicants this exceptional 3-year period of validity on the current application period due to the current COVID-19 situation possibly blocking out possibilities for taking a language test in some countries.
    • Normally, we accept test results taken a maximum of 2 years ago prior to the first date of the application period.
       

When a Language Test Result is not Required?

A language test result is not required, if you have completed a degree of higher education

  • in English in an EU/EEA country, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, United Kingdom or the United States of America
  • in Finnish or Swedish in a Finnish University or a University of Applied Sciences

A Language Certificate issued by your home university or any other institution or organisation is not accepted.
