Kouvola unit

In addition to programmes on its two campuses in Lappeenranta and Lahti, LUT offers a Master's programme in Kouvola.

Kouvola is located in South-east Finland, has a population of almost 90 000 and is one of the largest hubs of rail transport and land logistics in Finland. The Kouvola region is a very popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers, just as it is with people seeking to relax and get away from it all. LUT Kouvola is profiled as a centre of expertise for industrial management in two primary fields: technology and business innovation and railway logistics.

The mission of the Kouvola Unit is to share LUT knowledge and university level expertise with the Kouvola region through research and development as well as education.

LUT Kouvola's participation in international activities involves issuing statements for scientific journals, conducting preliminary examinations of dissertations, serving as an opponent for public examinations of dissertations, serving as a visiting professor and/or docent at foreign and Finnish universities, engaging in researcher exchanges and collaborating on research projects.

LUT Kouvola is very strong in academic publishing because it leads and participates in many international projects. The unit focuses on open innovation, sustainable logistics and simulation. LUT Kouvola has built close connections to local companies and consequently knows what the companies demand from their employees. The unit's education is based on the latest scientific knowledge and companies' needs for educated employees.

Founded in 2002, LUT Kouvola in located on the Kasarminmaki campus in Kouvola. The unit employs nearly 20 staff members and researchers in addition to a few doctoral students abroad and working for companies.
