Cost of living

Finland is known from its high standard of living. This also means that the country is not the cheapest one in the world. Still, in Lappeenranta and Lahti you can get by with a couple of hundred euros less than you can in the major cities in Finland.

Students have to pay for their books and other materials, plus their accommodation and living expenses. In Lappeenranta and Lahti, an individual's average total monthly living expenses amount to approximately EUR 700. The cost of living in Finland is about the same as in other EU countries.

Remember that a student card enables you to get meals and other services at student prices wherever you are studying, along with reductions in the cost of transport, museums and various cultural events and recreational activities. Do not forget personal and leisure expenses. There are many things to see and to do in Finland, and you may also want to visit the neighbouring countries during your stay.
