TUITION FEE

Citizens of EU/EEA Countries and Switzerland

Studies within the higher education taught in a language other than Finnish or Swedish are FREE for nationalities within

  • The European Union (EU)
  • The European Economic Area (EEA)
  • Switzerland
    • To prove your citizenship, you are required to enclose a copy of your valid passport or national ID card with your citizenship indicated on the document.
       

Citizens of Non-EU/EEA Countries

Citizens of a country outside the EU/EEA (excluding Switzerland) are REQUIRED TO PAY TUITION FEES. The LUT Tuition Fee for all the Master's programmes is

  • EUR 10 000 per each academic year
     

YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TUITION FEE IF YOU ARE:

  • Non-EU/EEA citizen having a Permanent Residence Permit Card in Finland (P)
  • Non-EU/EEA citizen having a Long-Term Resident's EU Residence Permit Card in Finland (P-EU)
  • Non-EU/EEA citizen having a Fixed-Term Continuous Residence Permit Card in Finland (A)
  • Non-EU/EEA citizen having an EU Family Member's Residence Card in Finland
  • Non-EU/EEA citizen having an EU Blue Card in Finland
    • Your residence permit card or residence card has to be granted by The Finnish Immigration Service
    • If having a residence permit card or residence card in Finland, you are required to enclose a copy of the card to your application
       

YOU ARE MOST LIKELY NOT TO PAY TUITION FEE IF YOU ARE:

  • Non-EU/EEA citizen but married to a Finnish citizen
  • Non-EU/EEA citizen but a family member to EU/EEA citizen having a right to reside in Finland
    • Your residence (permit) card or residence card has to be granted by The Finnish Immigration Service
    • If having a residence (permit) card in Finland, you are required to enclose a copy of the card to your application

LUT SCHOLARSHIPS


LUT Scholarship Programme

Scholarships are offered for students with a nationality of a non-EU/EEA country (excluding Switzerland), who are applying through Regular Admission to LUT Master's Programme/s taught in English and who are required to pay a tuition fee.
 

Three Different Categories for Scholarships

The LUT Master's Programmes* are offering scholarships in three different categories for students admitted for the academic year of 2019-2020:

  • 50% Tuition Fee Scholarship
    • Covering for 50% of the tuition fees in a 2-year Master's Programme
      A maximum of XX% of the admitted students who are required to pay a tuition fee and have applied for a scholarship will get this scholarship.
  • 100% Tuition Fee Scholarship
    • Covering for 100% of the tuition fees in a 2-year Master's Programme
      A maximum of XX% of the admitted students who are required to pay a tuition fee and have applied for a scholarship will get this scholarship.
  • Full Scholarship
    • Covering for 100% of the tuition fees in a 2-year Master's Programme and the living costs for EUR 5 600,00 per year
      A maximum of X% of the admitted students who are required to pay a tuition fee and have applied for a scholarship will get this scholarship.
      NOTE: All the Programmes are not offering Full Scholarships.

       

*There are no scholarships offered for the first academic year in the programmes Biorefineries and Industrial Design Engineering.
 

LUT Partner University Scholarship Programme

Scholarships are offered for students from the LUT partner universities with a nationality of a non-EU/EEA country (excluding Switzerland), who are applying through Double Degree Admission or Joint Degree Admission to a LUT Master's Programme taught in English and who are required to pay a tuition fee.

The scholarship are offered in the same three gategories as in the LUT Scholarship Programme - and all the programmes are not offering Full Scholarships.
 

How to Apply for a Scholarship?

When required to pay LUT tuition fee, you are eligible to apply for a scholarship when applying through Regular Admission / Double Degree Admission / Joint Degree Admission.

  • You will apply for a scholarship on the same application form when applying for the Master's Programme.
  • You will apply for a scholarship in general, not for a scholarship in a certain category.
  • No additional documents for applying for the scholarship are required or even considered.
     

No Specific Criteria for Eligibility

Other than the citizenship being a non-EU/EEA one, there is no specific criteria for being eligible to apply for a scholarship.

A certain number of scholarships for each programme will be granted in the order of the highest points achieved in the academic evaluation during the admission process.

Preliminary statements about chances on possibly being granted with a scholarship or not unfortunately, cannot be given as it all depends on the other applicants as well.
 

Requirements for the 2nd Year Scholarship

IF HAVING BEEN AWARDED WITH A SCHOLARSHIP ON YOUR FIRST ACADEMIC YEAR

To be able to use the given option for having your scholarship also for the second academic year, you must be able to study full time during the first academic year: To complete a minimum of 55 ECTS credits of studies that are included in your personal study plan. 

These credits have to be included in your Transcript of Records by the end of the academic year i.e. by July 31 at the latest. The studies for all students will be monitored each semester.

When successfully completing your studies on the first academic year (min. of 60 ECTS credits AND a GPA of min. 4.25 on a 5-point scale), you have a possibility to upgrade a 50% Tuition Fee Scholarship for the second academic year into a 100% Tuition Fee Scholarship. A 100% Tuition Fee Scholarship cannot be upgraded into a Full Scholarship.


IF NOT HAVING BEEN AWARDED WITH A SCHOLARSHIP ON YOUR FIRST ACADEMIC YEAR

When successfully completing your studies on the first academic year (min. of 60 ECTS credits AND a GPA of min. 4.25 on a 5-point scale), but not having been awarded with a scholarship on your first academic year, you still have a possibility to apply for and get a 100% Tuition Fee Scholarship for the second academic year.

These credits have to be included in your Transcript of Records by the end of the academic year i.e. by July 31 at the latest. The studies for all students will be monitored each semester.
 

PROGRAMMES NOT OFFERING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE FIRST YEAR

You are eligible to apply and get a 100% Tuition Fee Scholarship for the second academic year, in case of having completed a minimum of 60 ECTS credits of studies included in your degree structure during the first academic year with the minimum GPA of 4.25 on the scale of 1.00-5.00.

These credits have to be included in your Transcript of Records by the end of the academic year i.e. by July 31 at the latest. The studies for all students will be monitored each semester.

THE FULBRIGHT - LUT GRADUATE AWARD

The Fulbright student award competition is open to students from the U.S. who have at least a Bachelor's Degree. The Fulbright scholarship has its own application process, application period and criteria.
