Student testimonial: MSc in Software Engineering and Digital Transformation
You have compulsory courses, but you also have the freedom to choose the rest of the courses based on your interests.
Everyone in the software industry knows the cliché "technology changes rapidly". Yes, it has been overused, but we know that's just the hard truth. We need to be up to date with different programming languages, frameworks and best development practices applied daily in the industry.
That's exactly what LUT offered me as a first-year student in the Master's programme Software Engineering and Digital Transformation. Being a student at LUT was overwhelming to say the least. Having the chance to study in Finland alone got me pumped up and excited, not to mention the fact that I was going to study in one of the most highly ranked universities in the world.
Finland's education system is known as one of the best in the world, and LUT proved that in my first year of studies. The structure of the studies was amazingly well crafted: you have compulsory courses, but you also have the freedom to choose the rest of the courses based on your interests.
Personally, I was always driven by programming related challenges – hence my decision to choose the Software Engineering track. The professors were very helpful throughout the whole year. They are always ready to help you succeed and be the best you can be. To make sure you get the best experience of the industry, you have courses where you interact with real industry clients in exciting projects, do the entire development life cycle, the whole deal.
If you're not really into programming, you have the freedom to choose the Digital Transformation track, the new innovative way to digitalise businesses and organisations, fundamentally changing the way they operate and deliver value to customers. Either way, you will find yourself doing what you love just because of the freedom of choice you have as a student here. The whole process of starting my studies was extremely easy and flawless, starting from the fact that the tutors helped me with everything I needed to know regarding the city and the university the week following my arrival.
If that's not enough, you'll get the chance to choose your minor studies as a package and study something else that you're passionate about. Personally, I've always loved entrepreneurship and I had the chance to study just that as my minor. If you want to study what you love, come to LUT and you'll never regret it. It's that simple.
