The aim of the BIOTULI project (new products and business models for biorefineries) was to find new or existing compounds with antimicrobial properties in wood-based raw materials. The project examined business opportunities, markets and business models of new, antibacterial products on an SME scale and analysed innovation processes. The project also investigated the use of refining process by-products as an energy source and addressed the management and logistics of material flows.
This LUT Kouvola research section focused on innovation processes. LUT Kouvola researcher Melina Maunula's paper, "Innovation Management of Biorefineries in Finnish Forest Sector", was completed in August 2012.
Project duration: September 2010-August 2013.
