Energy balances and forest biomass utilization

Regional energy balance is a useful method for analyzing current status of primary energy consumption and energy end-use. It can be used as a guideline for future decisions and it points out e.g. possibilities for replacing fossil fuels with local renewable energy sources. This method can be also expanded for evaluating local availability and demand of forest biomass.

Examples:

  • Share of primary energy sources
  • Energy end-use and losses
  • Availability of forest biomass
  • Current and potential use of forest biomass
  • Increased regional and local knowledge
  • Future scenarios
