Laboratory setups

LUT offers modern laboratory facilities and test beds with versatile and constantly evolving measurement and testing equipment to perform various empirical studies related to power electronics, ICT and microgrid control, electrical safety and protection systems, condition monitoring and energy efficiency.

At the moment, the test environment for LVDC microgrids comprises a 200 m long unipolar 750 V DC link, a converterless connected 132 kWh battery energy storage and 145 kVA grid-tie converter for interconnecting the setup with the AC grid. Different DC and AC loads, and energy sources can be connected to the setup. The setup can also be used as a part of the LUT Green Campus, for instance, to study interoperation of photovoltaic production, batteries and controllable loads and the use of various controllable active resources in providing market-based flexibility services for different stakeholders.
