Foreign Market Entry Mode Decision-Making: Insights from Real Options Reasoning
In this world of rapid globalization, internationalizing is a must for most firms. To internationalize, managers need to make an important decision as how to enter a certain foreign market. The decision, however, is made under high uncertainty. Each market has unique uncertainties though the level of uncertainty may naturally vary. In this dissertation, I, along with my colleagues, have worked to improve managers' decision making on how to enter a foreign market taking into consideration future uncertainties. To do so, we have drawn models of decision-making and have proposed ways to improve investment decisions. The results also can be of help to entrepreneurs whose job is associated with constant uncertainty. Using the dissertation's recommendation, entrepreneurs can manage uncertainty regarding their business both domestically and internationally. But the results are not bounded to foreign market entry decisions and entrepreneurship. Decision-making is a part of everyone's life. We make investment constantly – be it of money or time. Future uncertainty is part of these investment decisions too. This dissertation also helps people make better decision by creating several options, analyzing them gradually, and finally pursuing the most favorable one.
