Jamie Hyneman to visit Finland and LUT

Product Developer and Mythbuster Jamie Hyneman will visit Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) in June. During his visit, Hyneman, known for the TV series Mythbusters, will receive an honorary doctorate in LUT's ceremonial conferment of doctoral degrees together with 13 other influencers. In addition to the conferment festivities, Hyneman will get to know LUT's research, entrepreneurship and experts.

Hyneman will visit LUT on 13-17 June 2017. On Wednesday, 14 June 2017, Hyneman will meet LUT's researchers and inventors and learn about the university's research projects. He will take part in the opening of the Soletair pilot plant. In addition, he is scheduled to attend an event targeted for LUT students, alumni and staff.

On Thursday, 15 June 2017, Jamie Hyneman will visit LUT research based spin-off companies and meet students from the LUT Entrepreneurship Society (LUTES). Hyneman will also meet with upper secondary school students at LUT's mathematics summer camp. On Thursday evening and Friday, Hyneman will participate in LUT's conferment festivities.

Hyneman says that he sees LUT as an active and rapidly evolving university with which he is proud to be associated.

"I hope to develop a close relationship with LUT through the people I meet. I don't take these things lightly and I want to learn more."

LUT is awarding Jamie Hyneman an honorary doctorate because he is known for being an entrepreneurial trailblazer, popularising technology and science and making technology appealing as a field of study in his own unique way.
