Lahti University of Applied Sciences has transferred its support services to LUT University

Lahti University of Applied Sciences (LAMK) has transferred its support services to LUT University through a transfer of business. This means that 76 LAMK employees have become LUT University's employees as of 1 September 2019.

The transfer of business will not change the availability of services. Students will continue to receive the same services on the Lahti campus.

Lahti University of Applied Sciences, LUT University and Saimaa University of Applied Sciences compose the LUT Group. The group's campuses are located in Lahti and Lappeenranta. According to Rector Turo Kilpeläinen, LAMK, the ambitious objectives for the LUT Group's education, research, development and innovation require efficient support services.

"A systematically organised entity of services will provide better opportunities to respond to existing and future operational needs", outlines Kilpeläinen.

The support services of Saimaa University of Applied Sciences were transferred to LUT in January 2018. The support services will from now on be called University Services. They currently employ 333 people overall.

One coherent service entity

Managing a unified University Services unit is part of the LUT Group's vision to take advantage of synergies and be competitive.

Another ongoing reform is the merger of the LUT Group's universities of applied sciences. Lahti University of Applied Sciences and Saimaa University of Applied Sciences will merge to become the new LAB University of Applied Sciences, which aims to start its operation at the beginning of 2020.

"Our target is to help the new LAB University of Applied Sciences and LUT University to reach their goals even better," says Provost Liisa-Maija Sainio, LUT University.

The LAB University of Applied Sciences will provide education driven by the needs of the working world and carry out applied research, development and innovation activities and artistic activities. LUT University will continue to conduct academic research and provide the highest education based on scientific research.
