Record number of applications to LUT University
LUT University has received a total of 5 638 applications to all Master's and English-language Bachelor's programmes.
LUT University's Master's programmes received a total of 4 884 applications. Programmes taught in Finnish received 2 214 and ones taught in English 2 670 applications. LUT's 17 English-language Master's programmes in technology received 1 948 applications, and its five Master's programmes in business received 722 applications. Applications to English-language programmes increased by 25.9% compared to the previous year.
The most popular technology programmes were Electrical Engineering (200 applicants), Software Engineering and Digital Transformation (197 applicants) and Mechanical Engineering (197 applicants). Of LUT's business administration programmes, International Marketing Management drew the most applicants – 166 overall.
Applicants representing 89 nationalities
The applicants represented a total of 89 nationalities. The largest numbers of applications came from Finland, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Iran.
In the Master's programme application period that now ended, LUT University sought applicants to 22 Master's programmes taught in English and 12 in Finnish. A total of 1 055 student places were available: 805 in technology programmes and 210 in business programmes.
Bachelor's programmes in English flooded with applications
In the joint application process that closed at the same time as the application period for Master's programmes, LUT offered five Bachelor's programmes in English – four of them completely new technology programmes. Bachelor's programmes taught in English attracted 754 applications in all. The number of applications compared to 2020 grew a staggering 186.5 per cent.
The most popular Bachelor's programme in technology was Software and Systems Engineering, arranged together with Hebei University of Technology, China, drawing 185 applicants. All English-language programmes have also become increasingly appealing to Finnish applicants.
Rolling admission another path for international students
Admission to international degree programmes will continue after the regular admission period. In rolling admission, LUT will review applications until 31 May 2021 if all places in the programmes have not been filled.
For international Master's programmes with the exception of the Master's Programme in Biorefineries and the Master's Programme in Circular Economy, rolling admission is open now. For all international Bachelor's programmes, it will open in February.
Rolling admission is an application path for those who have completed or are close to completing their degree outside of Finland and wish to apply to an international degree programme at LUT. Admission requirements differ when applying through rolling admission, and admission decisions are made within a month of receiving an application including all the required documents. In rolling admission, applications are submitted through studyinfo.fi.
