16th Nordic Filtration Symposium - Filtration for Circular Economy

Lappeenranta, Finland 24-26 August 2016

The focus of the 16th Nordic Filtration Symposium is on "Filtration for Circular Economy" and it will be organized by The LUT Centre for Separation Technology (CST) and The Nordic Filtration Society. The oral sessions and poster exhibition will cover the following main themes:

  • Filtration in facilitation of sustainable water use
  • Filtration applications in biorefining
  • Filtration applications in mining and metallurgy sector
  • Development of novel filtration and separation materials and matrices

NOTE! PhD Course Filtration for Circular Economy, 3 ECTS cr

PhD Course Filtration for Circular Economy is available for the Doctoral students from the Universities during the Symposium. Doctoral students are invited to participate in the 16th Nordic Filtration Symposium - Filtration for Circular Economy, free of charge, if they complete a seminar course for Doctoral students.

Get Together – event of the symposium will take place on Wednesday, the 24th of August, at the new Outotec Dewatering Technology Center in Lappeenranta. In addition to this, a symposium dinner will be offered to all participants on Thursday evening.  

About the Society

The Nordic Filtration Society is a chapter of the Filtration Society. The basic objective is to offer a forum in which to discuss solid/fluid separation problems, to establish a filtration information network and to stimulate contacts between Nordic industries, research institutes and universities.

How to get to Lappeenranta?

Lappeenranta is easy to reach. There are daily connections from Helsinki.

Arriving by plane to Helsinki, then taking a train to Lappeenranta

You can fly to Helsinki, get to a train station and take one of eight daily trains to Lappeenranta. Plan your trip and buy a train ticket to Lappeenranta by using the VR online service, or download and view the timetables: the daily train connections to Lappeenranta from and to Helsinki (VR route Helsinki-Lappeenranta-Joensuu-Nurmes); view also the daily train departures from Lappeenranta direction to Helsinki.

The distance between Helsinki and Lappeenranta is approximately 230 km (a little over two hours by train). Around 200 international flights a day arrive at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, which is situated 19 km from the centre of Helsinki. From the airport, you can take Bus 615 to get to Tikkurila railway station in 20 to 25 minutes. You can also take the Finnair City Bus, which will take you to the central railway station of Helsinki in about 30 minutes. Of course, you can also take a taxi to the railway station. A one-way fare to the central railway station costs about 30 € to 40 €.

Arriving by plane to Helsinki, then renting a car to drive to Lappeenranta

For small groups of people, the most convenient way of travelling from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to Lappeenranta may be renting a car.

Arriving from Russia by train to Lappeenranta

When you are arriving in Lappeenranta from Russia, taking a train is a viable option. For example Allegro train has several daily connections from St. Petersburg to Vainikkala station that is 26 km from the centre of Lappeenranta. From Vainikkala Rail Station to Lappeenranta Centre the Taksi Saimaa taxi provides connections to the Allegro and Tolstoi trains as follows: Lappeenranta (Travel Centre) – Vainikkala railway station – Lappeenranta (Travel Centre). Call Taksi Saimaa, tel. +358 (0)200 60 400 (EUR 1.08/call + EUR 1.01/min). Please note you should book a taxi at least 1 hr 30 min before your train departs from or arrives at Vainikkala railway station.
