All doctoral students of the university belong to LUT Doctoral School. Approximately 40 doctors graduate each year from our university.
The aims of the LUT Doctoral School include

- to disseminate good practice
- to increase the efficiency of international mobility and networking, and
- to support and develop a four-level tenure track-system
The LUT Doctoral School is headed by the Vice Rector for Research together with the LUT Doctoral School steering group. Each doctoral programme has its own head.
During doctoral education, the student acquires in-depth knowledge of his or her research field in order to be able to apply scientific research methods and generate new scientific knowledge independently and with due criticism within his or her research field.
The doctoral education consists of acquiring transferable skills, studying field-specific and supporting studies and conducting scientific research.
LUT Doctoral School has a yearly open call (August-September) for funded doctoral student positions (employment). More information is available during the application period, see Open positions.
