Research Projects and Initiatives

The Electric Mobility Research Center (EMRC) carries out both internally and externally funded research projects that address technological, economic, and societal challenges in electric mobility. In parallel, its open data initiatives provide real-world datasets that enable experimentation, application development, and the creation of data-driven solutions supporting a sustainable electric mobility ecosystem.

Research Projects

The EMRC advances electric mobility through two complementary project types: internally funded Co-Creation projects and large-scale externally funded projects.

Initiatives

Kempower Open EV Charging Dataset

On Friday 12th December, the EMRC hosted the Kempower EV Dataset Pitch Day at LUT University’s Lahti campus. The event brought together students, researchers, and industry representatives to present application ideas developed using the open EV charging dataset provided by Kempower.

The pitching sessions demonstrated how real-world charging data can be leveraged to generate new analytical insights, support the development of innovative services, and identify future business opportunities within electric mobility. The proposals covered topics ranging from energy consumption forecasting to advanced charging control strategies, highlighting the strong potential of open data to support research, development, and commercialization activities.

Pitch Day Results

  • Winner: Forecasting Energy Consumption based on EV Charging Dataset — Netum
  • Runner-up: Mesh-based Cooperative EV Charging Control Using Real World Kempower Data — LUT University MSc students (Electrical Engineering)

The Pitch Day showcased how open datasets, real industry challenges, and academic expertise can be effectively combined to accelerate innovation. Through initiatives like this, EMRC continues to strengthen industry–academia collaboration and support the development of future electric mobility solutions.
