LUT University will hold its eighth Ceremonial Conferment of Doctoral Degrees in Lappeenranta on 23 May. The conferment ceremony is the university's most prestigious celebration. In the ceremony, LUT will confer 13 honorary doctorates in technology, 9 in business administration, and one in social sciences. The honorary title is awarded in recognition of exceptional achievements and does not require the recipient to have a doctoral degree.

The university will also confer doctoral degrees on LUT University's recent doctoral graduates. The conferment ceremony is rich in tradition and symbolism. The doctoral hat represents freedom, and the doctoral sword symbolises a weapon of the spirit in pursuit and defence of truth. At LUT, the sword is borne by those with a doctorate in business administration, social sciences, or philosophy.
