Following the successful 2025 conference, which brought together 450 participants, the LUT Doctoral School Science Conference returns on 20 May 2027 to bring together doctoral researchers and supervisors to share research, gain inspiration, and build new connections.
All LUT doctoral students are invited to present their research, explore innovative work across the university, and connect with fellow researchers from different disciplines. Presentations can be given as oral presentations, posters, or video presentations. Supervisors play an important role by supporting doctoral researchers, encouraging engagement in scientific discussions, and strengthening LUT's collaborative research culture.
The conference is more than a platform for presenting research. It is a space where future collaborations begin, where researchers develop their communication skills, and where the wide range of expertise within LUT becomes visible.

LUT DS Science Conference encourages a culture of collaboration by offering a chance to discover the innovative work happening within our community and to expand and deepen professional networks. By connecting research across fields, we can discover surprising new solutions and practical ways to solve today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.

The event offers doctoral researchers valuable opportunities to practice presenting their research topics in a general, concise, and flexible format and communicate the broader impact of their work.
Presentations can be given alone or with a research team. In addition to traditional oral or poster presentations, one option is a creative presentation - you can choose any way to be understood and remembered by a multidisciplinary audience.
Before the conference, there will be pre-conference coaching sessions which offer tips and support for different presentation forms.

- Who can participate?
- Participation is required from all doctoral students and supervisors. The conference provides an important opportunity for research exchange, networking, and professional development within the LUT community.
- I participated in the conference in 2025. Do I need to participate again?
- Participation is expected from all doctoral students and supervisors, including those who attended previous editions of the conference. As research progresses and new results emerge, the conference provides an opportunity to share the latest developments in your work and learn about advances made by others across LUT. Participants are also encouraged to explore a different presentation format than they used previously.
- What presentation formats are available?
- Participants can present their research as an oral presentation, poster, or video poster.
- Will the papers be published?
- There is no submission or publication of full papers for this conference. Only an abstracts book containing the submitted abstracts of the presentations will be published. For an example, see the book of abstracts from LUT DSSC 2025: https://urn.fi/URN:ISBN:978-952-412-248-1.
- Can I receive ECTS credits for participating?
- Participation in the conference does not grant ECTS credits.
- Can I use materials from a other conferences?
- You may reuse existing material. However, presentations, posters, and video posters should be adapted to the DSSC format, timing, and guidelines.
- Could I get help with preparing a presentation or poster? Are there any pre-conference coaching sessions available?
- Yes. A series of coaching sessions will be organised before the conference to support participants in preparing oral presentations, posters, and video posters.
- Can I present research that is still in progress?
- Yes, the conference welcomes doctoral research at all stages, from the first year of study to nearly completed dissertations. You can present your completed or ongoing research and receive valuable feedback.
- Can I participate remotely?
- The conference is an on-site event, and remote participation is not available.
- Can I submit a poster or video poster without attending the conference?
- Physical attendance is required for all presentation formats, including oral presentations, posters, and video posters.
- Will transportation be organised from other campuses to Lappeenranta?
- Yes, bus transportation to and from Lappeenranta will be organised from Lahti, Kouvola, and Mikkeli.
- Is there a conference fee?
- Participation in the conference is free of charge for all LUT doctoral students and supervisors.
- Do supervisors need to register?
- Yes, all participants, including supervisors should register.
