11/2025: The first research article from our project has now been published! The focus of the article is on how climate migration is described in the news media in Finland and the Netherlands.
One of our main findings is that even though the academic discussion may have moved on from presenting climate migration in apocalyptic tones, the media in Finland and the Netherlands has not. In terms of differences between the two country contexts, we find that while in the Dutch media, climate migration is more commonly described through self‑identification and as a European and Dutch phenomenon; in Finland, it is primarily discussed through othering and securitisation.
